Iains' vocabulary has increased immensely over the last few weeks and he is starting to string words together now.

Last night as I was feeding Michael, Iain came down to say goodnight. After his goodnight kiss, he went to go upstairs, stopped and turned to me and said "Love you much!"

"Love you lots too" I replied

He continued repeating "love you much" until I replied "love you much too"

We are constantly amazed at how Ewen, and Iain, have developed their vocabulary. At times, however, we've had to rely on a new set of words to understand their references. Here are just a small set of words that have been uttered. Try to interpret their meanings before finding the actual words, at least for those that aren't that obvious.

Chimiley
Hostipal
lighter kite
melon

The first two are hopefully quite clear and in no need of translation. The latter two do, however. Lighter kite is fairly self explanatory, if you give yourself some time to mull it over. We see them quite regularly, particularly while we're out for our walks. Did you guess "Microlite". They buzz over the fields surrounding our home, especially when the flight path is further afield, and not over our house.
The last word can be quite confusing. This is noticeably so now that Clare built up our selection of juices (squash drinks) to the menu. Ewen, unexplicably, has requested lemon squash at lunch and supper. It's not the sweetest drink, but he has enjoyed it. Wierd!! Anyway, that was the last word. Confusing, eh?!

Michael is 10 weeks old today. Babies are such a miracle, not only how they grow inside you but also once they are born. I spent a few moments recording some of Michael's "firsts" today so I thought I would share them:

At 10 weeks he is smiling, sucking his hands, can see about 3 feet, has started to coo at us and in the last few days has started to reach his arms out to us. Every so often, when he does this, he seems to catch sight of his hand and gets a really quizzical look on his face as if to say "What's this thing then??"

10 weeks - such a short time, yet Michael has grown and changed so much. He is smiling at both Ewen and Iain too (who are thrilled to have their little brother respond to them)!

Iain really surprised us today. We were driving to see the "bluebell woods", a wood with a totally blue carpet of bluebells about 15 minutes from home, when we passed four motorcycles coming from the opposite direction. "Bike!" exclaimed Iain..... then came the surprise..."Four!"

Both Keith and I looked at each other in amazement - our two year old can count!

Then Iain continued "five, six......"

Oh well, after hearing Ewen count so often he has picked up numbers... now we just have to get him to start at one!
