55cm

Finally lay Michael down to make some attempt at taking the one measurement that no longer seems to be taken by the paediatric staff when babies are born. Tonight he measures 55cm to 56cm in length. He already seems quite long.

And now at just over six weeks old he is weighing in at over 8lbs 13oz. The weight taken on the 3rd April 2006. Clare's hoping to get another weigh in tomorrow.

How is he doing? Fairly well, by and large. Beginning to fall into more of an established routine. Though the odd day is populated with continuous wailing. At times it seems around 20h00 to 21h30, during which he is struggling to get rid of wind. The frustration is how he wakes almost immediately upon being put down to rest. And this is after he appears to be fast asleep. The one plus is he does seem to settle quite quickly when the lights are turned off around 10:40pm. He has also slept until 3-4am.

Unfortunately for Clare, this has generally meant she struggles to fall asleep again after she has finished feeding. I think part of the frustration is I fail to hear him, or the older boys. To a large extent, Michael's sleep pattern has been easier than Iain's was at the same time.

How have Ewen and Iain adapted to Michael? Very well we would say. Iain quite often comes up to us and states, "Hug! Hug!" We encourage the boys to sit before we let them sit with Michael. Iain and Ewen will sit down and we can place Michael in their lap. Iain will sit for some time with him in his lap, and say, "Shh!" to him. Ewen will hold him for about 15 seconds, then look for something else to do. Iain can be a little exuberant when he is rocking Michael in the bouncy chair.

On the whole, we're all settling into life with another family member.
